Easter Basket part, part, whole

Here is a cute little "Easter Basket" part, part, whole activity and fact family practice I am doing with my class Easter week.

Look at the picture below to see how I made the basket pattern:

I ran the egg patterns on two different colors and then will give each student random numbers of eggs of each color.  Each child will need one copy of the recording sheet.  You can get a copy for yourself by clicking on the picture below.

The cute border around my recording sheet is:

Bunny Marshmallow Graph

Next week is a 4 day week for me with an early out on Thurs.  So excited.   I am planning for next week and wanted to share the bunny marshmallow graph we will be doing.

First, you need to buy a bag of these (got mine at Wal-Mart):

Divide them up into enough individual packages for each child in your classroom.

Make a copy of the recording sheet below for each child in your class and let the fun begin.  You can grab a copy of the recording sheet by clicking on the picture.

After reading it, we did a compound word activity.
I found this activity on Mrs. Carroll's Blog:

Feeling Froggy?

We have started learning about frogs and toads.
After reviewing what fiction and non-fiction mean, we read frog books and then placed copies of the book covers on our T-Chart.

You can grab a copy of the above posters along with a copy of the book covers at this link:  Fiction and Non-Fiction Posters

The students are working hard in these centers this week:
1) Art - draw a frog, paint it, and then trace the lines with a permanent marker (this was a pinterest inspired project)
Check out the paint on her face.  :-)  She was having so much fun.

2)  Math - Place value practice with expanded form

3) Unscramble sentences

4) Match Antonyms

5) Measure with frog rulers

You can find all of these activities in my "Feeling Froggy?" unit that I posted in my TpT store.  You can check it out by clicking on the picture below.
In this packet you will find:

I sure would like to know how to provide the link by clicking on the picture but I haven't learned that yet.  If you know how, and want to share, I would love to learn.

Thank you Ms. Patterson and Deb for teaching me how to link a picture.  I appreciate it!

Early Bird Work Linky Party

Wednesday, March 14, 2012 1 comment
I thought I would join Heidi's Early Bird Work Linky Party at Swamp Frog First Graders.  I am getting some great ideas.  I'm really digging Reagan's Daily Math and Daily Language Activities.  You can check it out on her blog Tunstall's Teaching Tidbits

I don't really have morning activities for two reasons.

Reason #1:  I teach at a school that provides breakfast for every student and they eat it in the classroom.  Yes, you read that right -IN THE CLASSROOM.  I can't see me putting a paper on a student's desk while they are trying to eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Yes, you read that correctly too.  We have that for breakfast one day a week.  Other breakfast delights include sausage pancake on a stick (looks like a corn dog), cereal with milk, pigs in a blanket, and cheese omelets.  There are mornings that those desks have big greasy fingerprints or sticky messes all over them.

Reason #2:  Not all my kids walk in the door at the same time.  Some walk in the door at 7:45 while others come walking in at 8:00.  You see the problem.

So instead of written activities, we have a morning routine.
I have this poster posted on my small bulletin board at the front of the classroom.
At approximately 8:00 announcements come on the speaker, we say the pledges together, finish up breakfast, clean up and go right into math calendar.

I have tried having something on the promethean board for students to work on or having a paper for them to do but this year it just hasn't flowed smoothly or worked out to my satisfation.  So for now, we are sticking to our morning routine.

Did you know?

This little activity was at my writing center this week:
(I apologize for the shadows- I took each picture at different angles and it didn't matter what I did or what angle, that dang shadow wouldn't leave.)

The kids shared a fact they learned (about Texas symbols)  but they had to present it as a "Did you know . . .?" question.  If you would like a copy of the paper they wrote on, you can grab a copy for yourself HERE.
